A
comprehensive range of flame retardant paints which enables the
designer to maintain the overalldecorative theme yet satisfy today’s
building regulations for fire protection.
Flameguard
paints are formulated to be as easy to use as conventional paints
providing a high quality durable finish.
Conventional
paint systems, when subjected to high temperatures, will break down
and encourage fire spread. However, when the substrate is treated
with Flameguard paints, fire spread is severely checked or even
prevented. |

| |
| How
to Specify Flamegurad's Flame Retardant Paints |
| |
Flameguard
paints are formulated so that in the presence of heat a non combustible
gas is evolved which effectively blankets the flame, preventing
or severely limiting flame spread.
Flameguard
Matt Emulsion
Flameguard Matt Emulsion is quickly and easily applied. Its fast
drying formulation and alkali resistant coloured pigments make it
particularly suitable for internal wall surfaces and ceilings where
a tough, washable hard wearing finish is essential.
Flameguard

finish which has a luxurious silk sheen. Based on a special vinyl
resin it is particularly suitable for internal wall surfaces and
ceilings where a tough, washable hard wearing finish is essential.

which is washable and highly resistant to condensation and humidity.
It is particularly suitable for interior use on wall surfaces in
public buildings, factories and schools.

One
of a comprehensive range of Decorative Fire Protection Coatings
which enables the designer to maintain the overall decorative theme
yet satisfying today’s building regulations for fire protection.
Intuclear
is a translucent Flame Retardant Intumescent Varnish for natural
wood and wood veneered surfaces. It provides a finish which both
protects and highlights the natural beauty of the wood.
Intuclear
is used extensively to upgrade existing wood and wood panelling
to provide Class 1 and Class 0* Fire Protection whilst preserving
the natural character of the wood.
Previously
Varnished Surfaces
Intuclear’s unique formulation enables it to be used on previously
varnished surfaces with minimal preparation. Please consult our
technical department before application.
Areas
of High Humidity
With the addition of two coats of a gloss overcoat, Intuclear may
be applied to timber in areas where the humidity levels exceed 75%.
It is not suitable for use in kitchen or bathroom environments since
the combination of heat and moisture may cause premature breakdown
of the coating.
External
Woodwork
Intuclear is not suitable for outdoor use. Please consult our technical
department before application.
Stained
Timber
We recommend Bollom’s Colourfast 143 range of stains (Brush
Grade) or other acid - fast, penetrating wood stains and dyes. Dark
stain may appear cloudy when overcoated with Intuclear. Carry out
a test area before proceeding.
Intumescent
Fire Protection
In a fire, Intumescent softens and expands to form a carbon layer
which insulates and protects the substrate from the effects of fire.
Choice
of Finishes
Intuclear dries to a natural semi-matt finish, and separate gloss
or eggshell overcoats are available. |
| |
| How
to Apply the Thin Film Intumescent Protection |
| |
Surface
Preparation
Ensure that all surfaces are clean and free from surface moisture
and contaminates, such as oil, grease and wax.The moisture content
of timber before coating with Intuclear should be below 18% and ideally
between 10-12 %. If the surface has been previously varnished or stained,
please consult us for technical advice. Intuclear should only be applied
when relative humidity is below 75% and the air temperature is 5ºC
and above. |
| |
Method
of Application
Applied in three coats at 9m2/litre/coat by brush or conventional
spray.
Spray Application
We recommend a JGA gun, 35 air cap and ex 1.8 needle with a 7CFM
Compressor or an HVLP turbine. Thin each coat with up to 10% Intuclear
thinners including Intuclear overcoat if required. All spray equipment
should be cleaned immediately after use with Intuclear thinners
(T34). For technical advice and spray unit hire/sales contact Bollom’s
Spray Division on (020) 8658 2299.
Brush
Application
When brushing, lay off the second and third coats, maintaining a
wet edge, do not brush out. Lightly sand between coats. When applying
the final coat it may be necessary to thin 10:1 with Intuclear Thinners
(T34). If using Intuclear overcoat, thin 10:1 with Intuclear Thinners
(T34). |
| |
| How
to Specify Intuclear Intumescent Varnish |
| |
For
Class 1 to Timber Surfaces / Class 0* Fire Protection to Veneered
Plywood
Apply Intuclear to a total loading of 3m2/1litre normally obtained
in three brush or spray coats. If a gloss or eggshell finish is
required, apply minimum of one coat of Intuclear Overcoat at 12m2/litre.
For areas of high humidity, apply 2 coats of Intuclear gloss overcoat
at 12m2/litre/coat. |
| |
| Health
& Safety |
| |
| Normal
safety procedures for the application of solvent - based paints should
be carried out (Refer to Health and Safety Data Sheet). |
| |
| Fire
Protection by Intumescent |
| |
| Intuclear
varnish system provides fire protection by Intumescence. In a fire,
the coating softens and expands to form a carbon layer which insulates
the structure from intense heat. |
| |
 |
| |
Pre-treatment
of timber with preservatives
Most proprietary brands of preservative are normally suitable, but
a test area should be carried out first.
Areas
of Physical Wear
Intuclear is not recommended for use on doors, hand rails, stair
tread, floors or surfaces where significant physical wear is likely. |
