THE
INTUSTEEL WB SYSTEM - DECORATIVE
INTUMESCENT PROTECTION FOR STRUCTURAL STEEL
|
| |
| Bollom
Intusteel WB has been developed to meet the requirements of today’s
highly competitive markets. A combination of low film thickness data
and competitive pricing makes it the easy choice of product specification
for the contractor or applicator. |
| |
| Intumescent |
| |
| When
exposed to intense heat, Intusteel WB softens and expands to form
a carbon foam layer which insulates and protects the structure from
intense heat. |
| |
 |
This
extends the time taken for the steel to reach its critical failure
point and thus gives the fire services valuable extra time to
extinguish the fire. |
|
| |
| Decorative |
| |
Intusteel
WB provides a highly decorative, smooth, thin film protective
system which enhances the visual effect of the steel profile
as part of the overall design concept. |

Top Seal to provide a highly decorative, colourful finish.
Available
in both Gloss and Eggshell finishes with a wide range of colours
from the Bollom in-house tinting system.
When
redecorating, additional coats of Flameguard should be used
to maintain the system integrity. |
|
| |
| Cost
Effective |
| |
Intusteel
WB provides a cost effective solution for the fire protection of
structural steel. Due to the low film thickness required to achieve
the desired fire rating, contractors and applicators require less

| Steel
Preparation |
| |
Intusteel
WB can be applied over previously primed surfaces that have been
suitably prepared. Remove grease, oil, paint coatings and any other
contaminates. Surfaces should be blast cleaned to a minimum standard
of cleanliness SA21/2 as defined in BS7079 Part 1: 1989 to a surface
profile not exceeding 100 microns.
A
suitable approved primer must be applied within 4 hours of blasting
or before the surface has re-rusted. |
| |
| Primer
System |
| |
| The
following primer types have been tested and approved for use with
Intusteel WB for half hour and one hour ratings. |
| |
 |
| |
| Site
Conditions |
| |
Intusteel
WB should be applied only where the building temperature is 5ºC
or above, and the relative humidity is below 75% throughout the
application and drying periods. Intusteel WB must only be applied
when the metal temperature is 3ºC or more, above dew point.
Intusteel
WB is unsuitable for external structural steelwork. It should be
used on internal steel structures that are weather protected. |
| |
| Refurbishment |
| |
Existing
steelwork will usually have been treated with a coating system.
Existing coatings should be removed by blast cleaning to a minimum
standard of cleanliness SA21/2 as defined in BS7079 Part 1 : 1989.A
suitable approved primer should be applied within 4 hours or before
surface has re-rusted. |
| |
| Application |
| |
Intusteel
WB can be applied by airless spray, brush or roller.
Airless
spray is the recommended method of application. It is particularly
cost effective, as one coat of Intusteel WB will provide the required
fire resistance for many sections. |
| |
 |
| |
| Intusteel
WB Application Rates |
| |
Airless
Spray Application
Intusteel WB may be applied up to a maximum wet loading of 1000
microns (1 litre / m2) in a single coat. During application it is
essential to measure the wet film thickness frequently to ensure
the required thickness is achieved. Where the final surface finish
is required to be of a high standard, multiple coats should be applied
to achieve the specified dry film thickness.
Brush
Application
Brush or roller application will normally require more coats. The
maximum wet loading per coat is 500 microns (1/2 litre / m2).
Application
Control
Wet film thickness can be measured using a wet film thickness gauge. To
calculate the required number of spray, brush or roller applications,
consult the film thickness data chart. Check dry film thickness
before applying Top Seal.
Intusteel
WB Top Seal
The Intusteel WB system is completed by overcoating with Flameguard
Top Seal providing a highly decorative colourful finish and protecting
the intumescent coating from accidental damage. |
