boards and particle boards. Broflame may also be used to upgrade

| |
|
| |
Applications |
| |
|
| |
Internal
use on new blockboard, hardboard, chipboard, plywood, softwood and
MDF for Class 1 and Class 0 fire protection.
Upgrading
existing materials in public buildings, schools, hotels, etc. to
provide Class 1 and Class 0 protection in accordance with BS 476
Parts 6 and 7.
Previously
painted surfaces, walls, ceilings, timber linings and particle boards
to provide a Class 1 and Class 0 fire protection.
Protection
In a fire, Broflame softens and expands to form a carbon foam layer
which insulates and protects the substrate from the effects of the
fire.
Flameguard
Top Seal
The use of Broflame enables the designer to use timber linings in
any area of a building for walls, ceilings or partitions. The decorative
theme is then maintained by overcoating with Flameguard Top Seal

How
to Apply Broflame Thin Film Intumescent Protection |
| |
|
| |
Surface
Preparation
New surfaces must be clean and dry. Knot and stop as necessary.
Oil or emulsion painted surfaces must be rubbed down to provide
a key, ensuring a clean, dry surface. Existing paint films must
be adhering firmly - if in any doubt, remove all existing coatings.
Method
of Application
Normally applied by brush or airless spray. Broflame must not be
thinned. It is imperative that the loadings specified in the appropriate
test certificate are observed. The required loadings can be applied
in one airless spray coat.
Airless
Spray Application
Use a pump such as a Graco Ultra Max 1095 or equivalent. A 30 mesh
filter is recommended. Use a tip size of 0.48-0.73mm (0.019-0.029”)
and tip pressure 243kg/cm3 (3500psi).The internal diameter of the
material hose should be 9.5mm (0.375”).
For technical
advice and spray unit hire/sales contact Bollom Finishing Equipment
on (020) 8658 2299.
Brush
Application

quality brush. To achieve the required thickness a minimum of two
brush coats will be required with 4-12 hours between coats.
Site
Preparation
Throughout the period of application and drying, ambient temperatures
should lie between 5-35ºC, relative humidity below 75% and
the surface temperature between 5-35ºC. |

Application
Notes for Intulac Ultra Intumescent Base Coat |
| |
|
| |
Brush
and Roller: Apply an even coat taking care to avoid runs
and sags using a good quality brush or roller.
Conventional
Spray: Material should be heated to a maximum of 70ºC
in a water bath or heating cabinet. Ensure that the lid is
loosened first. Needle and nozzle to be made with V2A steel. Nozzle
size 1.5mm (0.059”). Container pressure 1-2 bar (14-29psi).
Viscosity to be adjusted by heating to 20 seconds ISO 4 flow cup.
Notes:
Intulac Ultra is designed for internal use only. Do not
apply when relative humidity exceeds 70% and condensation is likely.
Drying will be retarded below 10ºC and application should be
stopped until temperature rises.
Further
Notes:
Intumescent coatings are damaged by water vapour (high humidity)
and require protection. If light surface bloom or minor surface
damage occurs, Intulac Ultra overcoated with Intulac Ultra Top Coat
Varnish can be wiped down with a damp cloth and then dried immediately.
Badly soiled surfaces have to be refinished by wiping over with
a cloth wetted in Thinners 1000 to remove stubborn marks, then overcoated
with Intulac Ultra Top Coat Varnish. In the event that major blooming
or crazing of the basecoat occurs the whole system should be removed
by using No.23 Degreasing/Dewaxing Solution and abrasive pads. The
full Intulac Ultra system should then be re-applied. |
